July 2020: In joy or sorrow, simply trust!

July 2020: In joy or sorrow, simply trust!

In situations of urgent need when human beings are confronted with seemingly insurmountable problems, they call out to a mighty God. “Lord, help!” – Such is the content of their prayers in uncertain times. I am reminded of a Bible passage from Exodus 14:14 that really speaks to the point: “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” At the time, the question was about which path the people of Israel should take through the desert: in front of them lay seemingly insurmountable obstacles – and behind them the Egyptian army of an angry Pharaoh. The Israelites gave in to panic and cried out to God. Moses told them what they were to do: “Trust in God and be calm! If He is on our side, nothing can happen to us!” And as we learn from this account, the Lord did indeed intervene – in an unexpected and very effective manner – in order to deliver His people.

We too are at times confronted with difficult situations. At such times the Holy Spirit calls upon us not to panic or blame God for our misery. Instead, He reminds us that God is the one who will deliver us! Soon He will deliver us – in unprecedented fashion – by sending us His Son to take us to Himself! Together with His Apostles, Jesus will see to it that His bride is ready for His return. For this reason, let us keep calm in temptations, trust in God, and prepare ourselves in prayer for the great moment of our rapture.

Again and again, we also experience times when things go well for us. At such moments let us come to the Lord to praise and glorify Him because we know that we owe all the good things we have to His grace. We enjoy the joy and happiness that God grants us. Let us also prepare ourselves in prayer for the return of Christ in such good moments of our lives, and let us not forget that God desires to grant us something even more beautiful: eternal fellowship with Him!

More congregations to open for divine services

More congregations to open for divine services

The easing of Covid-19 restrictions has meant that the opportunity to gather in our churches and halls can now take place for additional congregations. Within Australia, churches have now been allowed to open in New South Wales, ACT, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and as such divine services have now recommenced in these states and territories.

On Sunday 12th July it is anticipated that divine services will also recommence in churches for congregations in Queensland.

At this stage, only Sunday services will take place in the church buildings. Wednesday evening services will continue to be transmitted online, and all members and guests are invited to connect through the links found here.

In order to maintain the low rates of infection, the government and health authorities have advised that regulations regarding public gatherings must be followed.  A flyer detailing these requirements will be displayed in all churches, and can also be viewed by clicking on this link: Stay safe at church. This, and any additional information, will also be advised to you separately by your rector.

Recommencement of divine services

Recommencement of divine services

As restrictions regarding church gatherings have now started to lift, it is now time to plan the recommencement of divine services in our churches.

This has already been discussed in a meeting with our District Rectors and their assistants. For this to happen in an orderly manner, divine services will begin on the same date in each district.

New Zealand congregations
To allow time to conform our churches and halls to the current protocol requirements, we anticipate Sunday divine services will recommence in all congregations on Sunday 21st June. Wednesday evening services will continue to take place online until further notice.

Australian congregations
Within Australia, church services will recommence as the restrictions are lifted by the authorities in each individual state and territory. As more information is made available by the respective leaders, we will make further decisions regarding the commencement date for each district. Until then, all divine services will continue to take place online.

June 2020: Nothing you can do about it?

June 2020: Nothing you can do about it?

Often we find our way into circumstances over which we have no control or influence. We might suddenly fall ill, or perhaps become involved in an accident through no fault of our own. We might unexpectedly receive notice that we are about to lose our job or our place to live. These and other such events or incidents might well come along to make our lives difficult. Most of the time, we come to the conclusion: “There is simply nothing you can do about it. Might as well get used to it. There is nothing you can do in this case!”

This may be true, but that does not mean God cannot do anything about it!

Paul and Silas could not do anything about the fact that they had been thrown into jail. They did not even have a lawyer who could plead their case on their behalf. But they did have their faith! This faith gave them the certainty that nothing is impossible for God. And lo and behold: God sent them an angel to free them in a miraculous way.

Even when there is nothing we can do about it, as children of God we need never resign ourselves to our fate. If it is God’s will, He will go to work on our behalf!

Socially distanced, spiritually connected

Socially distanced, spiritually connected

During this time of social distancing, our inability to sing together in our churches has been felt by many.  In order to remain connected through our love of music a “virtual” choir was put together by the members of the Western Pacific District.

After receiving the chosen pieces, each person recorded themselves singing and once this was submitted, the technical work took place to put it all together, ready in time for the Ascension Day divine service.

We are pleased to share the choral renditions of “Take time to be holy” and “Beyond the sunset” with you.
